Why choose laminated log instead of a massif log
The laminated log is an engineered product and has better qualities than the massif log, which makes it better to use.
The glued log is made from massif log blanks, which are glued together. The heart of the wood is turned to the outside, therefore the hardest and strongest part is facing the weather and other elements. The softest part of the wood is what the different Xylophages insects love to eat.
With glued logs, they don’t have access to their “food”, because the softest wood is turned to the inside and is strengthened by the glue at the same time.
By using glued logs, you are guaranteed to have a better quality product because the wood is up-graded during it’s whole processing.
Another part of the glued log is the finger jointing. This allows us to have less waist of wood as well as to offer the exact lengths requested by the client. This guarantees a better quality on the whole length of the log, whereas a massif log would come with its imperfections.
Glued logs have to have a controlled hygroscopic balance to be glued. This means the glued log is a stable material, unlike the massif log, which settle 4 times more.
It will not twist anymore. Because of this, we use less wood in one length of wall because we don’t have to make as many cross section peaces to stabilize the structure. For example, with a glued log, we can make a house that is 8*8 meter without using cross section at 4 meter to stabilize the walls.
The massif log cracks 95 % more than the glued log, therefore the glued log gives a better visual finish and better psychological effect.
